International Cooperation: 46th Global Privacy Assembly
The theme of the conference was how to reconcile the power of information with the need of citizens across the world to control their personal data. Discussions also focused on the adequacy and effectiveness of current regulatory models in a rapidly changing world. The aim of the conference was to find short- and long-term solutions to improve individuals’ ability to manage data and handle their personal data responsibly, particularly when it comes to data transfer.
A meeting initiated by the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) also took place on the sidelines of the conference. At the meeting, the data protection authorities of those states that have been recognised by the EU as ‘adequate countries’ discussed measures to strengthen international cooperation. The FDPIC put forward proposals regarding cooperation within the group and with the data protection authorities of the EU. The proposals had previously been discussed at the meeting with the data protection authorities of the adequate states organised by the EDPB on 8 October:
