The Board of Directors is responsible for FINMA's strategic leadership and for business management tasks. The Federal Council took note of the resignation of board member Susan Emmenegger with effect from 31 December 2024, and thanked her for her service.

The Federal Council has appointed Aline Darbellay as a new member of the Board of Directors for the remainder of the 2024–2027 term of office. Aline Darbellay is a tenure track professor at the University of Zurich's Law Faculty. She has over 15 years' experience in business and financial market law, both in research and in practice. After studying law and obtaining her doctorate in Switzerland, she went to the United States, where she obtained her Master of Law and passed the bar exam. She then worked at Baker & McKenzie, at the Horgen district court and as a lecturer at the University of Zurich, before being appointed as Assistant Professor of Banking and Financial Market Law at the University of Geneva in 2016. She has been Assistant Professor of Banking and Capital Market Law at the University of Zurich since 2023.

Aline Darbellay is independent from the supervised entities and holds no directorships. She will assume her new post on 1 January 2025.
