Factsheet on the use of cookies and similar technologies
As part of an awareness campaign, the FDPIC has published a factsheet on the use of cookies. Aimed at webseite users, it explains how they can retain control over their own data and minimize the digital footprint they leave behind while browsing.
Although cookies and similar technologies can enhance the online browsing experience — for example, by saving the contents of a shopping basket or certain preferences — they can also enable third parties to track users’ online activities.
In this factsheet, the FDPIC addresses internet users by providing them with some practical advice. It follow-up to the guide of 22 January 2025, which outlines the data protection requirements for data controllers operating websites and apps that use cookies.
The factsheet aims to raise awareness of the need for data-minimalist use of cookies and to highlight the risks that can arise from sistematically consenting to ‘all cookies’. It seeks to encourage a broad audience to exercise their rights of control and choice in everyday life through digital opt-in or opt-out mechanisms.
