Pursuant to Art. 51 para. 1 of the Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), the FDPIC is authorized to issue rulings if an investigation reveals violations of data protection regulations. It publishes these rulings on the basis of Art. 57 para. 2 FADP.

Under Article 27(3) of the old Data Protection Act (oFADP), the EDÖB was previously able to issue recommendations if an investigation revealed violations of data protection regulations. It published these recommendations on the basis of Article 30(2) of the oFADP.
